Seminar: Discourse Tools

Aim

This seminar aimed to research the field of computer mediated discourse and learner-to-learner interaction from an interface design perspective.

Objectives

Participants in the course had to analyze bulletin board softwares, annotation systems, discourse mapping tools, visual decision making support systems, reputation management and rating systems, design principles for intranet systems, cooperative and open content management systems (e.g. Wikis), chat tools and collaborative peer-to-peer tools.

Outcome

As a result of this seminar several theoretical aspects were examined: argumentation theory, knowledge concepts, speech act theory, social aspects of computer mediated communication, hermeneutic, sociology of group dynamics, etc. Findings were translated into a number of concepts and interface mockups.
